Michael Schimmel is a partner in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale and New York offices where he practices in the areas of corporate law, real estate and tax matters. Prior to joining KO, Mr. Schimmel was a member of the law firm Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. He focuses on corporate structuring, complex real estate transactions, joint ventures and all aspects of business law, including fund formation and the area of fiduciary duties and responsibilities.
Mr. Schimmel has a wide range of experience handling all aspects of day to day property management operational issues and has successfully negotiated contracts, along with financial arrangements in excess of $1 billion. His breadth of experience and diverse background allows him to provide both practical and in depth advice to clients across multiple disciplines. His broad transactional practice and significant exposure to general corporate and tax related matters, including advising clients in connection with entity selection and formation uniquely qualifies him to counsel on the uses of different entities in business planning. Moreover his entrepreneurial legal training and start-up experiences coupled with an innate ability to navigate and work in a business setting make Schimmel a sound business attorney and advisor.
Mr. Schimmel frequently publishes in legal and business periodicals and journals most recently focusing on the importance of fiduciary duties and obligations owed to the company and its shareholders. He earned his LL.M in Taxation from Northwestern University School of Law and his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, cum laude, and is admitted to practice in Florida, Illinois, District of Columbia and New York (*Pending). Schimmel graduated with a bachelors degree in History from Indiana University. |
