Ruben E. Socarras, Jr., a partner with the firm, focuses his practice in the areas of business litigation, labor and employment law, and general civil litigation. He has experience representing business entities and individuals in a variety of business related matters in state and federal courts, including contractual claims, injunctions, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, intellectual property claims, employment related disputes, real estate and title claims, and shareholder disputes. To that end, he has litigated and tried cases in almost all courts in Florida, as well as before arbitration panels. In addition to his litigation experience, he also counsels clients in connection with their business transactional needs, which includes contract analysis and preparation, and drafting of operating, employment, non-compete and restrictive covenants, shareholder, and other business related agreements.
Prior to joining KO, Mr. Socarras practiced with a prominent AV rated law firm handling a wide range of general civil litigation matters, including property and general liability claims, contractual claims, insurance coverage disputes, condominium and homeowners’ association law, and defense of catastrophic injury claims. He also served as an intern with the Office of the Attorney General of Florida's Economic Crimes Division.
Mr. Socarras received his law degree from the Stetson University College of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Broward County Bar Association, and American Bar Association. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He serves on the Bench and Bar Committee for the Broward County Bar Association for the 2010-2011 term. He was recently selected for inclusion and named in 2010 Florida Super Lawyers in its Rising Stars list. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
Mr. Socarras was born in Miami, Florida. In addition to his active participation in the legal community, he currently serves on the board of a non-profit organization that mentors and provides leadership skills to youths throughout Florida, and is actively involved with the University of Florida Alumni Association. |
