Kenneth E. Keechl, of counsel to KO, is a senior trial attorney with the firm’s litigation department.  In addition to practicing law, Mr. Keechl currently serves as Broward County’s Mayor, elected by his Broward County constituents in 2006.  He has been practicing law for over 20 years and has a reputation as one of South Florida’s finest commercial and land use trial attorneys.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Keechl was an Equity Partner with the prestigious Florida firm, Brinkley Morgan, building the firm’s commercial litigation and land use litigation practices.  While at the firm, he tried numerous complex commercial cases to verdict and was the Assistant City Attorney of Plantation for 14 years.  He has also handled the legal work for other municipalities, including the City of Wellington.

He received both his BS and law degrees, cum laude, from Florida State University where he served as Editor of the Law Review.  He is AV-rated by Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest rating in both legal ability and ethics.  He previously served on the Individual Rights and Responsibilities Committee of the Florida Bar, which focused on civil rights issues, including those facing minorities, the elderly, and the disabled.  He also was a volunteer attorney for Broward Lawyers Care, representing pro bono clients who could not afford legal counsel.

He is currently Vice-Chair of the Broward Country Public Safety Coordinating Council Advisory Board, a Member of the Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Authority Board, the Broward Alliance, the City/County Liaison Group, and Intergovernmental Relations Group.  Mr. Keechl also previously served on the Value Adjustment Board, the HIV Health Planning Council, and the Metropolitan Planning Council.

Mr. Keechl’s community involvement is selfless.  He is presently involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County; HOMES, Inc., which focuses on providing workforce housing in Broward County, a member of the Smart Growth Partnership, and a member of the Founders Circle of the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of South Florida.
