Gary C. Matzner is a partner in the firm, resident in the Miami office. Mr. Matzner has a wealth of experience in health care law and corporate transactions. Known as the Dean of Health Law Attorneys, he represents hospitals, managed care companies, accountable care organizations, physicians, medical group practices ASCs, and imaging centers.

Among his clients, Mr. Matzner has served as lead healthcare counsel in the turnaround of largest Florida hospital bankruptcy, lead counsel for first Medicare Managed Care Contract in Southeast United States, co-founded AmeriHealth, Inc., a publicly traded hospital management company, lead counsel for Columbia/HCA first four Florida hospital acquisitions, lead counsel in the turnaround and sale of CareFlorida, HMO to Foundation Health, Corp., lead counsel for Mount Sinai Medical Center, $107, 075,000 Revenue Bond Refinancing, lead counsel in the sale of Sun Coast Hospital, Tampa, Florida, lead counsel for the North Broward Hospital District physician compliance review, and lead healthcare counsel for purchase of 34 home health agencies.

In the medical regulatory area, Mr. Matzner represents clients in drafting managed care contracting, physician employment agreements, company operating agreements, compliance programs, HIPAA privacy and security matters, Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse issues, billing and reimbursement disputes, self-disclosure, false claims and licensure. In the corporate law area, he is known for his innovative strategy in structuring transactions to comply with the Stark and Anti-kickback laws including Provider-Based and Under Arrangements transactions. He has been the lead attorney on hospital and physician joint ventures and co-management arrangements. He has broad experience representing clients in front of AHCA, purchase and sale agreements and physician employment agreements.

Mr. Matzner has represented clients in numerous multi-million dollar transactions and contracts. He had the pleasure to serve on the Board of Directors of a billion dollar NASDAQ listed company for ten years, including its audit committee and co-founded a publicly traded hospital management company. He has served as a lecturer and speaker at firm, Florida Bar and health care industry sponsored seminars. He has also written articles for the Florida Bar Journal and medical business journals. His professional experience includes serving as General Counsel to Cedars Medical Center, Miami Florida, Counsel at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, and Partner at Akerman Senterfitt. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Florida Bar Health Law Section and the American Health Lawyers Association. During his career he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America, Leading Florida Attorneys, Top Lawyers in South Florida and AV® Preeminent™Martindale-Hubbell. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and received his Juris Doctorate from Temple University Law School.

Among his civic achievements, he was the co-founder of the city of Pinecrest, Florida and served as its mayor. He also, served on the Board of Governors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Miami-Dade County.
